Wat Benchamabophit, Bangkok
Wat Benchamabophit is a Buddhist temple complex of insightful beauty and religious significance. The temple is also known to foreigners as 'the Marble Temple', as the Ubosoth Hall was constructed with marble from Italy. It is one of Bangkok's most beautiful temples and a major tourist attraction.
Wat Benchamabophit is a royal monastery qualified as the first class ranking of Rajavaravihara. Only few temples belong to this class. Wat Benchamabophit temple was founded during the reign of the King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) on in 1899.
Inside the Ubosoth Hall, Phra Buddha Chinnarat is the main Buddha image. It is a replica of Phra Buddha Chinnarat at Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat in Phitsanulok province The interior of the building is brilliantly decorated with cross beams of lacquer and gold equipped with stained glass windows gives the place a unique character.
